Hope That Does Not Disappoint

“And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” — Romans 5:5 (NLT)

Have you ever felt disappointed in life? Maybe you didn't get the job you wanted or the relationship you were hoping for didn't work out. Maybe you raised your kids to love God and to serve Him, and that is not how it has worked out in their adult life. Whatever you’re facing, I know from experience that disappointment can be a difficult emotion to deal with.

But as Christians, we have a hope that does not disappoint. Our hope is not based on positive affirmations or wishing for the best. Our hope is based on the love of God, which the Holy Spirit has poured out into our hearts. This love doesn't change or depend on anything. It is always and always will be a part of our lives. It's easy to lose hope when things are hard or when we have to deal with challenges. We might wonder if God has forgotten about us or if our prayers aren't being heard. But the truth is that God loves us and is working behind the scenes to make sure that our lives go the way He wants them to. We can depend on God's love and loyalty.

Our hope is more than just a dream or a wish. It is a sure belief that God will do what He says He will do in our lives. Humans may disappoint us when we put our hope in them. In fact, they are guaranteed to disappoint us, because they either don't know what we need from them, or they are too busy focusing on their own problems to worry about us. But God is not like that! He knows what you're hoping for and He does not want to disappoint you.

The Psalmist said, "All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you" (Psalm 38:9 NIV). He knows your every longing. He hears your every sigh. So let me encourage you to hold on to the hope that God won't let you down today, and to encourage you to be filled with the Holy Spirit, who reminds us of God's love and gives us the strength to keep going through every trial and tribulation.
