“The spirit and power of Elijah” — Luke 1:17 ESV
Somebody said, “Faith is spelled R-I-S-K.” Nobody knows that better than Elijah. His life shows a wild, daring faith that brought about radical, powerful results. Faith is a key to operating in the power dimension, and Elijah demonstrates this well. From the moment he appeared to Ahab with a confrontational prophetic message, to his journey to the brook to be fed by ravens, to his audacious request that a dying widow should give him an offering,
Elijah was a man of a different sort. People with faith like Elijah are just different. They walk differently and talk differently. They seem to not be concerned with the opinions of man. At some point along the way they shed that concern. They seem to be led from another dimension. They see what other people do not see. At times they seem to have lost all sense, at least to those who are only navigating life with their five natural senses. Faith believes the impossible and sees the not-yet-visible. Faith pulls promises and hopes out of the heavenly dimension into this natural dimension (Hebrews 11:1).
Did you ever notice that Elijah spoke the word that there would be a drought, and then he was led to drink from a brook, which was obviously a limited resource? Think about it. The brook would only flow with water as long as there was rain falling from the sky and filling it again. He trusted that the Lord would give him further instructions when necessary. Then he obeyed the voice of the Lord and went to the least likely source of provision — a poor, starving widow. As it turns out, she wasn’t the source and neither were the ravens. Elijah wasn’t looking to either one. He was looking to God. That is faith, and that is why Elijah operated in power.
Are you feeling bored or stale in your walk with God? I am certain he wants you to step out in faith, take him at his Word, and do something different in your life.
