“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” — John 16:13 NKJV
The worst part about being deceived is that you are deceived. Think about it: people who are deceived don’t know they’re deceived, because they’re deceived. It’s a sobering thought! And if you are paying attention, you will notice that the world is growing more and more deceived by the moment. When the disciples asked Jesus to do a teaching on the signs of the last days, in Matthew 24, the first thing he said was, “Take heed that no one deceive you.”
The most obvious sign that we are in the last days is that there is a spirit of deception in the world and masses of people are falling for it. And since Jesus warned His disciples not to be deceived, it would be arrogant to think that you are completely immune from it. But thankfully, the Bible tells us how we can be safeguarded by deception and we can know we are in the truth. The word of God is the truth (John 17:17), and the Holy Spirit guides us into truth (John 16:13). So as I stay filled with the Spirit and stay in the word of God, the Spirit is guiding me into all truth. The Holy Spirit guided the original disciples to write the events and words that pertained to the life of Christ—everything He wanted written down—and He still guides us into the truth today.
There are people who get saved in prison, who have only a Bible and the Holy Spirit, who end up with correct doctrine and a thorough knowledge of the truth. Similarly, there are missionaries who have gone to countries where there are no Bible colleges and no television. When the missionaries teach in-depth subjects, such as eschatology, the people will say, “We already believe everything you taught about this.” Why? Because the Holy Spirit guides them into all truth.
The Holy Spirit guided His people all throughout the Bible. And He will guide you today—into all truth.
