“The washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” — Titus 3:5 NKJV
Titus 3:5 says that “He saved us by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” The New Living Translation translates this phrase as “new birth and new life.” When we are born again, this process of being renewed by the Holy Spirit begins. We are made new, and then He keeps making us new daily as we get into His presence, as we surrender to Him, as we pray in the Spirit and read the Word and fellowship with other believers.
I love leading people to Jesus. Whether it happens on the streets or in a church service, I always follow the moment of salvation with some basic instructions about how to walk with God. But first I like to explain what just happened to them, because most people don’t fully realize what just happened to them when they get saved. When I talk to them, I almost always start the followup discussion by quoting 2 Corinthians 5:17, which is a familiar scripture. It says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” The beautiful thing is that as soon as someone comes to new life in Christ, they are becoming new all the time. They are a new creation immediately, but they are also becoming who God created them to be day by day as they walk with Him. In the same way that God created the world but is still active in His creation, He is still making you new.
Renewal is the continued work of God in our lives. The moment we came to Jesus, the Holy Spirit immediately renewed us, and He hasn’t stopped since. He keeps making us new day by day. Yield yourself to Him today. Cooperate with His work of renewal in your life. Don’t go back to the way you were when He found you. He is making you new.
