“Now faith is... the evidence of things not seen.”— Hebrews 11:1 NKJV
To live by faith is to see the invisible. It is seeing into the heavenly realm and putting more trust in what you see with the eyes of faith than in what you can see with your own two eyes. My pastor, Rusty Nelson, says it this way: “You have to see it before you see it, or you will never see it.”
Years ago, I was on staff at a residential discipleship program for men with life-controlling issues called OMA (Outreach Ministries of Alabama). That ministry was birthed in faith and has been sustained by faith for over 50 years. Their stories of miraculous provision could be told for hours on end. They had a ministry van that was used to bring the students to various churches, and many times they would share their testimonies or sing as a choir. It impacted people and provided support for the ministry. The van broke down suddenly, and the cost of repair was not worth saving it.
We used to do a weekly prayer walk. We would split up into groups, walking around the property, praying over ministry needs. After the van broke down, I had an idea from the Lord. As we were prayer-walking, we came to the parking lot. I told the students to lay their hands on an invisible van, believing that God would provide a new one. I told them that we would soon be laying our hands on a new van to dedicate it to Him. In the natural realm, it was ridiculous. We looked like mimes! Our hands were on something that wasn’t there. People drove by honking and staring. Some of the students were brand new to Christianity. I know they felt awkward! Three days later, I drove onto the property and saw the students standing beside a beautiful 15-passenger van, grinning from ear to ear. Someone felt led to donate it to us!
Faith pulls promises out of the invisible realm and brings them into this natural realm—from heaven to earth. I wonder what God would do if you would have the audacity to act like you already have the provision He has promised. When we walk by faith, He makes the invisible visible, showing His faithfulness and bringing honor to His name.
