“And not being weak in faith... [Abraham] did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” — Romans 4:19-21 NKJV
Abraham's unshakable faith in God's promises has earned him the title of “the father of faith.” Despite his advanced age and his wife's infertility, he had faith that God would use him to bring about the son He had promised, thereby making him a father, and eventually entering his destiny as the Father of many nations. His trust was so strong that he had no doubt that God would deliver on His promise.
Faith is not just confidence in God's existence but also in His promises and attributes. By expressing our belief that God is who He says He is and that He is able to achieve what He says He can do, we give Him glory, because we are making a statement that He is who He claims to be. Our faith serves more than simply our own interests; it also serves as a witness to the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Faith is not wishful thinking or naive optimism. It is based on the accuracy of the Bible. Like Abraham, we must rest our trust on God's promises to us. Abraham's confidence was founded on God's promise to him. We can be confident that God will be faithful to us because we can see His faithfulness to His people throughout history in the Bible.
When we are confronted with trials and difficulties, we may be tempted to question God's promises. But like Abraham, we must decide to strengthen our faith and give God praise by believing that He can fulfill His promises. Our faith exalts God and demonstrates the reliability of His word.
In conclusion, faith is trusting in God's character and promises as well as believing that He exists. By placing our trust in God, we exalt Him and proclaim His fidelity and might to others. We must choose to strengthen our faith in the face of difficulties, giving glory to God by believing that He is able to fulfill His promises. Our faith must be based on the veracity of God's word.
