Killing Unbelief

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” —Mark 11:23-24 NKJV

Unbelief is like a cancer that eats away at our faith. It robs us of the blessings that God has in store for us, and it hinders our ability to receive from Him. But just as cancer can be treated, so can unbelief. And the treatment for unbelief is faith. Faith can prevail over unbelief and bring about results that are supernatural. Increasing our faith is the secret to killing unbelief. We accomplish this by engaging with God's Word frequently, deciding to believe it, and meditating on His promises. Listening to preaching is a good way to do that.

Reading the Bible every morning is another good way to do that. And talking to people who are full of faith is another. These actions strengthen our faith and help unbelief loosen its hold on our lives. However, even when we have faith, fears and doubts can still enter our minds. When that happens, we must act to dispel doubt. We can accomplish this by speaking God's Word over our circumstances. Speaking the Word of God aloud serves to both remind us of His promises and to affirm our belief in them. This is an effective strategy for combating doubt and igniting our faith.

Taking action in the name of faith is another way to overcome doubt. For instance, if we are believing for healing, we might begin making changes to our lifestyle, like eating wholesome foods and exercising frequently. When we act on our faith, we show that we have faith that God will provide for us.

By sustaining our faith, proclaiming God's Word, and acting on our practical faith, we kill off the unbelief that lurks in our hearts. These actions will help us overcome our doubt and strengthen our faith as we do them. We will witness the moving of mountains, the fulfillment of promises, and God answering prayers as our faith increases, just as Jesus said.
