Servant

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him” — Acts 10:38 ESV

Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit.  And what were the results? When He was anointed with the Holy Spirit, “He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil” (Acts 10:38).

I want to look at those two things — 1) He went about doing good; and 2) He went about healing all who were oppressed by the devil.

He went about doing good. What does it mean to “do good?” Put simply, it means meeting needs.  If you look at the gospels, you’ll notice that everywhere Jesus went, He met a need in the moment.  When someone needed healing, He healed them. When someone needed to be forgiven, He forgave them. When someone needed to be confronted with truth, He talked to them.  When someone was an outcast, He accepted them.  He met needs.

He went about healing all those who were oppressed by the devil.  Jesus is the Healer.  And specifically, His healing power released people who were under the power of the devil.  You could call it a clashing of two kingdoms, His healing power pushed back the kingdom of darkness and advanced the kingdom of God.  And he healed everyone who came to Him for healing.

Jesus was a Spirit-filled Servant. Everywhere Jesus went, He 1) met a need in the moment and 2) healed a hurt in the moment.  And it was because He was anointed. And God’s anointing brought God’s results.  You too can live just like Jesus if you make it your goal to meet needs and heal hurts.  And God will be with you.  That is the anointing.
