Divine Assignments
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” — Acts 20:24 NLT
This past month has flown by! Can’t wait to give you a rundown of what’s been happening!
The past two weeks have been packed with ministry, and we are completely amazed by what God is doing!
Last Sunday morning I was honored to come back to House of Joy in Slidell, LA, where I preached a messaged called “Faith in the God of Resurrection,” only to find out from Pastors Larry and Leslie Roques that their church was started after they heard a message called “It’s Never Too Late for a Resurrection” that was almost identical to the message I preached. I love the Holy Spirit! It was a great day and several people were touched by the presence of God and refreshed. We are looking forward to returning to House of Joy regularly, believing for revival.
Then, on Wednesday, I was back at REACH Community in Mandeville, LA, where I did a night of evangelism training and impartation. I preached on evangelism and laid hands on everybody in the building. We had the privilege of having DJ and Kaylee from our School of Evangelism with us. There was a prophetic spirit in the house and God was speaking to people! We are excited about continuing evangelism training with our friends at REACH, and plan on coming back for several weeks series. We are beyond thankful for their amazing pastors, James and Christina Weidner.
On Sunday night, I preached at Victory Church in Metairie and brought a message about the Mission of Jesus from Acts 10:38. The anointing was so strong in the room I could barely preach. It was an over-the-top night! The power of God was in the house and many people gave testimonies that night and the next day about what God did. We are grateful as always to Ps Frank and Parris Bailey for the opportunity to minister at their church that values the presence and power of God so deeply!
Last night (Wednesday), I had the honor of seeing our intern DJ Strickland preach at a youth service and I helped pray for people at the altar while students were set free and one student was baptized in the Holy Spirit!
Tomorrow, I’m heading to Loranger, LA to be part of a men’s retreat where I will preach what I hope to be a hard-hitting message entitled “Living a Legacy” from Acts 11:24.
Meanwhile, ministry in the French Quarter has been going a million miles an hour! In addition to our weekly Jesus Meeting, we have still been on the streets several times a week. In addition to my personal mission of evangelizing daily on the streets, we have several ministries happening— from our Red Bean Monday outreach, to our Saturday nights, as well as our partnership with Courier Missions and Jordan Wilks, who is doing an amazing work, we have been boldly preaching the gospel, loving people, and praying for those who need a deep healing. We have so much to report on the Quarter, and next week I will be sending out an update specifically about the people we have been ministering to, along with a prayer list so you can make it personal. We hope to be able to paint a picture of the great need that is here and what we are doing to meet the need with God’s help. We also have a VERY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT about the French Quarter coming up that you won’t want to miss!
In Acts 20:24, Paul looked at the trials he was facing in ministry, including the fact that he knew he would lose his life as a martyr. Even in the face of these things, he said, “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” I love this verse, Acts 20:24 in the New Living Translation: “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”
Paul didn’t just live on purpose — Paul lived on assignment.
Do you know your assignment? It might not look like mine. In fact, it probably won’t. But it will have something to do with Jesus and the kingdom of God and winning souls and influencing people for eternity. When we think about how the kingdom of God is advanced, we usually think about the spiritual giants of history, the generals of the faith— you know, the Apostle Pauls and the Billy Grahams and the Reinhard Bonnkes and we tend to think that those are the people God uses to get His work done on the earth. Or you may even read this newsletter and hear about what God is doing through my life and somehow think that God couldn’t use you in the same way. But the fact is, the anointing flows when you know your assignment. When you go about your life making it your goal to achieve God’s assignment, you will find God using you all over the place.
The gospel spread from Jerusalem all the way around the world because people got on assignment. People laid hold of God’s assignment for their lives and started influencing other people to follow Jesus. And now here we are, 2,000 years later on a different continent and the kingdom has been advancing—not primarily through superstar ministers and “anointed preachers”—but through everyday people who decided to live their lives on Divine Assignment.
How is he calling you to fulfill the Great Commission? One way would be to start inviting people to church. Or another way could be to feed the homeless.
